Statement Walls Listed In Top Gripes Poll

There was an item on a tv consumer programme about the number of things house buyers find so irksome about the houses they’ve bought – some years after the purchase.  These ranged from fluffy, unhygienic carpets in bathrooms to the style of windows all round.   Another flashpoint in some families was the colour of the statement fireplace or wall in the main sitting room.  Some years ago it was in vogue for walls to be a neutral magnolia shade of cream.  This allowed owners to be spacially aware and add a touch of drama and colour by way of one statement wall or the chimney breast.  This would often be dark red or other solid primary colour which the canny decorator would pick out in the soft furnishings, say a cushion with a flower pattern in the same statement shade.    This is not so popular now apparently – its all mismatched tables and chairs and cupboard doors in different sades
